NOTE: The following information is specific to Pine Recovery.  Additional general information coming soon.


Pine Recovery provides 1 bed for 24 hour non-medical, residential withdrawal management services. All services shall be compliant with State of California regulations governing operation of monitored residential detoxification.

There is at least 1 staff member or volunteer who has a current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certificate and current first aid training on duty and awake at all times. Withdrawal management staff is trained to provide assessment, detoxification and referral services.

Individuals receiving withdrawal management services will be:

  • At least 18 years of age, conscious and able to walk without assistance. Individuals unable to walk without assistance will be referred to the hospital unless the cause is a disability. Participants must be able to administer their own medications. The participant must be able to provide a thorough medical history for assessment purposes.
  • Only participants assessed as not requiring medication for the management of withdrawal will be admitted. If a participant presents with obvious serious physical or mental withdrawal and requires medication, he will be referred to the medical professional of his choice to be treated before re-admission. The participant is required to bring medical authorization to return to non-medical detox.
  • Participants will be permitted to remain in detox until ready for release or accept a referral to treatment. Personal property will be inventoried and stored in a secure place
  • Individuals discharged from detox may not return for a period of 30 days unless special circumstance indicates re-admittance.
  • Visitors and/or phone calls are not permitted during detoxification. The only exception is in cases of emergencies. With written consent, staff will inform the indicated people of condition and progress of the participant.
  • Individuals in detox should shower daily, are provided clean bedding, pajamas, and will receive 3 nutritious meals and nutritious snacks daily. Their clothing will be washed and returned in a timely manner.
  • Before an individual is admitted into detox, Client Medical History, Authorization for Release of Information, Oral Consent Forms and CalOMS must be completed. Using the information on the Client Medical History and personal observation, staff will determine whether to bring the individual into detox or refer him/her to the hospital for medical treatment.
  • When admitted into detox, each individual receiving detoxification services are closely observed and checked on at least every 30 minutes during the first 12 hours following admission by a staff person or volunteer. The close observation and physical checks shall continue beyond the initial 12 hour period for as long as the withdrawal signs and symptoms warrant. Thereafter the rounds will be conducted every two hours. Documentation of the information that supports a decrease in observation and physical checks shall be recorded on the Detoxification Shift Report and filed in the participant's file by a staff person or volunteer.
  • Staff or volunteer shall physically check each participant for breathing by a face-to-face physical observation at least every 30 minutes.
  • The detoxing man is provided with, and encouraged to watch recovery videos and listen to recovery media during his stay. Recovery literature is also available. Options for continued treatment are discussed and referrals are offered before exiting the facility.
